Using MS Project in VDI

Instructions for using the MS Project software in the VDI environment.

Using MS Project on VDI.USJ.EDU

 

NOTE: You must install the Horizon client before continuing.  Please see the article “Installing & Configuring VMWare Horizons Application” before using the MS Project application

 

Windows 10 Instructions -

  1. Launch the Horizon Client & connect to VDI.usj.edu
    1. NOTE:  When launching Horizon Client, you will get prompted to allow or deny redirecting USB devices. 

THIS MUST BE ALLOWED

  1. Click the USJ-Main application icon

          3.  On the computer screen, click on the Start Button in lower left.  Then scroll until you find "Project" and click on it.

      4.  The application will launch. You can then start using Microsoft Project.

  1. To upload a data set
    1. Download & Save or Copy the data set onto the USB Drive
    2. Insert the USB drive into your device
    3. Open File Explorer & locate your USB drive under “This PC”, make note of the Drive Letter (D: in this example)

  1. In the MS Project window, select “File Open” (or click the Folder in the main application title bar)

  1. Click the arrow on the left of the “Look In” field & scroll down until your see the Drive Letter on PC Name option.  (D on USJ-15343 in this example)    Click the entry to open the drive.

  1. Locate the data set & double click to open.
  2. The selected data will then load into the main MS Project Application screen.
  1. To save your File
    1. Click File, Save As.    Scroll down until you find your USB Drive and click on Save. This will update the file stored on the USB Drive.
    2. To Open, click File, Open.  Repeat steps E,F + G above to locate the USB drive.

 

 

  1. To upload a file into Project using a macOS device
    1. Download & Save or Copy the data set onto a USB Drive
    2. Insert the USB drive into your device

    4. Launch the Horizon Client & connect to VDI.usj.edu
    5. Enter your Username and Password.
    6. Select USJ Main Icon.

    8. Click on the Start Button and look for Project.
    9. Double click the Project icon

  • The application will launch. You can then create a new file or upload an existing File.
  1. To open an existing file (on the USB Drive)
    1. In the Project window, select “File Open” (or click the Folder in the main application title bar)

                 d. Locate the File & double click to open.

    1. Click File, Save All Data.    This will update the file stored on the USB Drive.
    2. To export, click File, Export.  Select your format & repeat steps E,F + G above to locate the USB drive.
